Ban on Bike Taxi Service: Big News! Government banned Ola, Uber and Rapido in this city, check full details
The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has issued a ban on bike taxi services provided by Ola, Uber, and Rapido in the city. The government has accused the companies of violating rules and has warned against carrying passengers on two-wheelers, stating that heavy fines and suspension of driving licenses will be imposed on the accused.
Under the Motor Vehicle Act, carrying passengers on any type of two-wheeler is considered a punishable offense, with a fine of Rs 5,000 for the first instance and Rs 10,000 for the second. Aggregator companies, in particular, can face a penalty of up to Rs 1 lakh for violating the rules.
Other states are also likely to take similar actions against bike taxi services, given the ongoing tussle between various state governments and companies on this issue. The 2019 amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act stipulate that no aggregator can operate without a valid license
